I began belly dancing in the Summer of 2000. I was
looking for a fun way to get in shape and recover from a
knee replacement surgery from the year before. Not
only did I eventually lose over 50lbs., I also found my
heart and soul. This dance has been such a gift; from
the amazing women I have had the joy to connect with, to
the blessings of self-esteem and self-realization.
Aside from teaching, I direct a performance troupe,
Twisted Gypsy. We present ATS, as well as short
choreographies, and dance at festivals, faires, private
parties, fund raisers and a variety of other venues. I feel
honored to create with such an amazing group of
beautiful and talented women.
In addition, I direct a student performance troupe, Gypsy
Sisters. I do my best to create a positive and nurturing
environment for my students to express their joy and
passion. The Sisters perform at street faires, hafla's,
schools, fund raisers, and social centers. From
beginners to advanced beginners, all levels of my
students are welcome to participate in this Sisterhood of
dance.
Currently, I am certified in the General Skills of
FatChance ATS format & look forward to accomplishing
my teachers certification with Carolena Nericcio of San
Francisco, CA. Most recently, I have become certified in
Power Belly! by Delilah of Seattle, WA. I have studied
American & Turkish Cabaret styles, and have taken
workshops in Dunyavi Gypsy, Indian, & Tribal Fusion.
The journey has been wonderfully inspiring & the
learning never ending.
Many thanks to all of my teachers through the years.
"This dance was created by women, and shared for thousands of years between women. Remember this when you are feeling discouraged or having moments of awkward - we have all felt the same things at some point in our lives. Keep moving forward and remember to laugh!" -- Jen Edara
